There was no love in history, nor will there ever be again, quite like the love the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his devoted eromenos Antinous shared.
Antinous perished young, his life left to the mercy of the rapid Nile waters, and their promise - give your life to the Nile, spare the life of someone most beloved to you. The Emperor had been ill, and under more than several circumstances their union was threatened.
Hadrian was said to’ve crumbled and wept “like a woman” over the loss - rumored by many historians to have been deliberate, a sacrifice of love.
Imagine loving someone with such conviction that you have every art form convey his face. Imagine being loved so passionately that you are deemed a city, a God; painted a constellation in the stars.
This is one of the remaining statues of Harian’s beloved Antinous, one day to crumble. Though Harian has solidified and celebrated the existence of history’s most epic muse, a God who walked the earth, the stars, and the scrolls of history.
